  • Xmas = Christmas

In Greek, the letter Χ (chi), is the first letter of Christ, and it, or the similar Roman letter X, has been used as an abbreviation for Christ since the mid-16th century.[9] Hence, Xmas is often used as an abbreviation for Christmas.

All you "Xmas takes Christ out of Christmas" believers can now shut up.

  • Douchebag

So I met up with some of my buddies at the club last night. At some point I start talking to my friend Tom who I grew up across the street from and have known since second grade. He's really happy to see me, two sheets to the wind and acting like the class comedian. At some point he starts talking to me about something and says

"You know like these douchey guys who wear scarves and type on their macs in starbucks, like hey look at me  and my scarf."

The entire time he's saying this I'm looking over and him and thinking to myself

"Hey I wear scarves and used to own a macbook and plan to buy another. Minus the starbucks thing you're talking about me here."

Of course he didn't realize he was talking about me when he said it, because at the time I wasn't wearing a scarf and the macbook was replaced by a Bud Light Atwater Brewery Winter Bock (gotta watch myself there).

But it got me thinking, people are using this term douchebag or douche or whatever to describe almost every type of guy these days.

I can just see the guys with the two layers of double popped collar polo shirts standing there making comments about the douchebag  in the t-shirt and jeans over there.

    The Classic Douchebag.

It doesn't seem to entail a certain type of guy anymore like it used to. People use it all the time to describe anybody they don't like the looks of. It's now become interchangeable with snob, geek, hipster, jock, prep, you name it. I'm starting to think it's getting out of control.

  • Laser Hair Removal

There is a certain part of my chest on my left side that has grown hair since I was a teenager. I have a particular birthmark there that is a darker patch of skin where I seem to get a lot more hair growth. Thicker and darker. It's uneven with the other side of my chest. I usually shave it. But that's bothersome. I've considered getting laser hair removal there. As well as a few other places. :)

The only thing is, it's very expensive and take several treatments over the course of months. On top of that it's not always permanent.

I came across a home laser hair removal device that is FDA approved and seems to have positive results after several treatments. It's called the TRIA laser hair removal system and costs $600. That's cheaper then going and getting it done. Plus you own it, so you can use it over and over again and even share it with other people.

I was wondering if any of you have ever heard of this or used it? The ladies on this forum also seem curious and of the ones that have used it, say it works. They just advise that you shouldn't use it on your face (not something I planned on doing) although some women have used it on their face.

I'm also kind of curious about using it on the rest of my chest, maybe one treatment thought. Just to thin it out, not to completely remove. Do you think that would work?

I can only imagine devices like this will get cheaper over time.

  • Girls Dating Nerds

I don't have a problem with this post itself.
    http://www.datingish.com/716632150/why-its-better-to-date-a-nerd/

What I tend to have a problem with all the responses. You can scroll through the comments and see all the "pretty" and "hot" girls talking about how much they agree. But in real life. I'll be damned if I ever see one of them with a  nerd. An actual nerd.

No their idea of a nerd is a douchebag guy who plays xbox games and has an iphone. Hey listen, everyone is a little technologically aware these days. We live in an age where we all have computers in our pocket. That doesn't make someone a nerd. A geek is someone who likes to have in depth conversations about the stuff inside that computer in their pocket. A nerd is someone who goes even further then that and starts hacking the thing to do weird shit.

I'm saying this in defense of nerds everywhere, because they know it's true and for some reason I always seem to attract nerdy people in conversations in real life. But I'd consider myself more of a geek.

To me the difference is simple, a nerd is someone with limited social skills and an extreme sense of awkwardness and poor taste in style. But very technical. Almost all logic and no style. A geek is like a nerd but a little more trendy and socially aware. As well as usually having a much better chance at getting a date. At least that's my definition. How nerdy of me to define the two terms. lol

Anyway. I just think it's silly. Because a lot of these girls wouldn't even entertain a geek like myself for too long, let alone even bat an eye at a real nerd.

I just think the term nerd has become such a trendy term. It doesn't help that they get these decent looking guys on TV dressed in white button-up shirts with ties and thick frame glass who make witty remarks. They have become the definition of a nerd in this trendiness. Those guys are more like geeks who are riding the wave of the nerdy trend.

    Real nerds look like this:

Not the trendy geeky take on nerdism like this:

At least that's my point of view.

  • Safebrowse Settings to EX?

Has anyone changed their safebrowse settings to "Explicit"? If so have you found that your number of readers drops to next to nothing for posts marked EX?

I'm kind of curious how many people have gone through the hassle of faxing xanga a copy of their drivers license.
Who even has a fax machine anymore?

  • Modeling

Today I got to model for a photo shoot. This image will be used in printed flyers for the Atwater Brewery. It's promoting their seasonal Winter Bock. Pretty cool. If I'm going to do any modeling it might as well be for a beer company and a good one at that. :)

  • Poor versus Trashy

If I ruled the world and had the superpower to change things in reality just by imagining it, that would be pretty cool. I would invent new technologies yet unheard of. I would build futuristic new cities overnight. In doing all of this my ultimate goal would be to provide everyone with a better standard of living.

But even if this were reality and I did indeed have these superpowers, I would still face an uphill battle. My superpower would not include the ability to change peoples minds. Even if it did it would be a power I would resist using. It's no fun to rule a world where everyone agrees with you.

I've dreamed of huge buildings that reach two or three miles into the sky and a mile by mile square. An entire city in just one building among many. Inside each level would be ample green space, great public facilities and low cost living. Even those with the weakest of budgets could afford an apartment with over two thousand square feet of living space with absolutely modern bathrooms and kitchens.

It's a Utopian dream. But in thinking about it more I realize those with the weakest budgets that I'm talking about are good and decent people who want more from life but just don't have the means to support it. These are poor people with manners and certain degree of education. Really I'm talking about myself and those like me right now.

But the reality is that there are a lot of poor people who are also trashy people. The reason they are poor is because they're trashy. Because they were raised by trashy people who never put much focus on education and manners.

When I think about how the world really is, I begin to believe that it's perfect. It all makes sense. Those people who speak intelligently and carry a certain degree manners and motivation can make something of themselves. At least in the United States. They may not become millionaires, but they can at least increase their station in life and live in clean safe environments. But those that are trashy rarely will.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that only poor people can be trashy. I think Paris Hilton is a perfect example to the contrary. There is definitely a difference between being poor and being trashy. It just so happens that many trashy people also happen to be poor.

I see some of these young white ghetto guys walking around on the street with their oversized coats and their baseball caps turned to the side. Just from that first glance I can tell you that most of these guys will never make it further in life then they already are. That is unless they change their ways.

If any of these types of people moved into my Utopian city buildings they would reduce their living space down to their mentality. The result is their environment would not be as clean and probably filled with more violence then other areas. As much as I would have fought to rid such a city building of it, I would find that in fact I would have ghettos in certain areas. Because ghettos are not really about being poor, they are a state of mind. A state of mind that affects the environment around it. I know this because I've seen neighborhoods that are obviously filled with people who are lower in income. But take pride in what they do have. They keep their streets and their homes clean. They have a certain degree of manners and well being. Unfortunately so many of such neighborhood these days have been infested by trashy people because of the low cost of entry. The result is that it brings the overall environment down and those that are just poor and not trashy end up trapped in such bad environments having to deal with trashy neighbors.

  • Is Global Warming a Fraud?

Al Gore and a lot of other environmentalists are on a rampage to make everything greener. This has become a staple of pop culture these days. Everyone is going green. They say that if we don't do something, we are going to seriously harm our existence on earth, as well as the existence of several other plants and animals.

There are after all signs that we are hurting the environment and we need to change our ways. Global warming as they say is a serious threat. As a result, Mr. Gore and others want us to start transitioning over to electric cars, renewable energy (solar, wind, ect) and become more efficient in our daily lives in regards to reducing pollution and other hazardous threats to our environment.

However, there are those that don't believe global warming is a man made occurrence and some that don't believe it's even taking place at all. It is their belief that this is just a natural cycle of the earth and that these problems are not caused by us.

I'll be honest. I don't have all the information. What I know I've heard from sound bites, radio interviews and Al Gores film  "An Inconvenient Truth". But here is my take on it. Even if Global Warming is simply a natural cycle unspurred by mankind, aren't we still better off living greener lives? Aren't we still better off using renewable energy rather than burning the limited supply of oil we have? Aren't we still better off driving electric cars and not polluting our cities with smog? Aren't we still better off recycling and using less materials? Aren't we still better off cutting down less trees? Aren't we still better off aligning our lives in harmony with nature and the world we live in?

All conspiracy theories and disagreements aside, I don't think it takes an environmental scientist to see the affect we have on the world around us and the harm we've done to wildlife with our pollution, urban sprawl and deforestation. Not to mention the affect it has on us.

About Me

  • So much to say, so little space. I am an independent filmmaker who also loves photography and art in general. I'm a gadget geek, mac user, deist, bisexual, father, boyfriend, web designer, smoker, wine drinker, beer drinker, sex lover, porn addict, agoraphobic, part time philosopher, lover of ancient cultures, sci-fi fan, intellectual and a dreamer. I've come to realize I'm a bit of an eccentric person. My girlfriend says I have many faces. Which is not the same as saying I'm two-faced (which I'm not). Just that I have many expressions and ideas and thoughts and interests. This has confused me for many years. Often leaving me wondering which of these things are actually me. But the older I get, the more I'm realizing I am all of these things and that's ok. It's not just ok, it's fucking fantastic. Not all is good about me, but most is. I'm becoming more comfortable with myself, slowly opening up more the older I get.
